Technological Innovation Drives Diabetes Management into a New Stage

In recent years, the concept of diabetes management has gradually shifted from intensive glycemic control to integrated glucose‑weight management, emphasizing equal importance of weight control and blood glucose regulation. The 2022 ADA/EASD consensus elevated weight management to a level equivalent to blood glucose control and cardio‑renal protection. The 2025 ADA guidelines and 2024 CDS guidelines also explicitly recommend integrated management of blood glucose and body weight.
In terms of management goals, diabetes management is moving toward multidimensional assessment. In addition to traditional HbA1c, metrics derived from fingerstick‑calibration‑free continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) have been widely integrated into clinical evaluation systems.
In terms of therapeutic approaches, technological innovation and pharmaceutical development advance in parallel:CGM technology has achieved revolutionary progress with significantly improved accuracy, smaller and non‑invasive devices, prolonged sensor lifespan, and factory calibration. These advances provide reliable evidence for insulin dose adjustment and reduce the daily management burden for people with diabetes.
Meanwhile, the application of digital tools helps optimize the allocation of medical resources, extending diabetes management from hospital to home settings and improving continuity and accessibility.
Guidelines both in China and abroad recommend CGM use for people with diabetes, with its importance reflected in three core aspects:enabling precise monitoring, optimizing treatment regimens, and enhancing patient self‑management.
The establishment of the iCGM standard has set a higher benchmark for diabetes management, promoting seamless integration between CGM and insulin pumps and laying a technical foundation for closed‑loop artificial pancreas systems.Furthermore, the deep integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and CGM will further shape the intelligent and precise future of diabetes management.
