On January 30, 2026, Elsevier officially released the 2025 Highly Cited Chinese Researchers list. Based on Scopus, the globally recognized authoritative citation and indexing database, the list evaluates research outputs by Chinese scholars using a proprietary methodology developed by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, ensuring its professionalism and objectivity.
The 2025 list includes a total of 6,310 scholars from 543 universities, enterprises, and research institutions, covering 10 disciplinary fields and 83 first-level disciplines under the Ministry of Education. Among them, 756 highly cited scholars are in the medical field, spanning 9 sub-disciplines:325 in clinical medicine, 125 in basic medicine, 99 in pharmacy, 71 in public health and preventive medicine, 44 in Chinese materia medica, 41 in stomatology, 21 in traditional Chinese medicine, 20 in integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine, and 10 in nursing.
