How Can People with Diabetes Relieve Negative Emotions at Work?

In the modern workplace, things do not always go smoothly. Many people hope for trouble‑free work, but in reality, various problems may arise, causing negative emotions in people with diabetes. What should diabetics do when they experience negative emotions at work? Below are my personal suggestions.

When negative emotions appear at work, one of the first effects for people with diabetes may be elevated or fluctuating blood sugar. At this point, you can write on your note: “Blood sugar normal, health first” to remind yourself to stay calm. You can lean back in your chair and stretch your legs to relax.

Next, leave your desk and call a trusted friend or chat with them via instant messaging about what you are facing. Keeping emotions bottled up is never good. Take about 10 minutes to talk to your friend and let out your frustration. Your friend will listen, analyze the situation from their perspective, and may even offer practical advice.Be sure to talk only to a trusted friend — one is enough. Never complain to colleagues, because in the workplace, if you confide in an unreliable coworker, your words may spread quickly throughout the company.

After calling your friend, do you feel better? If so, hang up and reflect quietly for a few more minutes. Combine your friend’s analysis and advice with your own thoughts, and realistically decide what to do next. Assess how much the negative emotions are affecting you — is it time to move on?If you have worked it out, return to your desk quickly and get back to work as if nothing happened.

A word of caution: not everything is suitable to share with friends. It may not be wise to discuss major or sensitive company matters with people outside the organization. Also, try not to become dependent on talking to friends. Instead, you can find a quiet place to be alone for a while, sort out your thoughts, and then return to work.

If negative emotions still linger, you can relieve them gradually after work. If you live close by, walk home slowly. If you take the subway, let your mood calm down during the ride. If you drive, I suggest sitting quietly in the parking lot until your negative emotions fade before driving home.

Remember: do not bring negative emotions home, and do not let them affect your work or health. Bringing negative feelings home may upset your family and harm harmony, and it can also disturb your sleep.Personally, I recommend finishing work‑related matters and emotions before going home, especially if your workload is manageable. However, I do not advise people with diabetes to drink alcohol to relax, as it is harmful to health.Home is a place for relaxation and warmth, so when you return, focus on being with your family. These are my personal suggestions, and you may adjust them according to your actual situation.
